How to convert XviD/DivX to VCD/SVCD/DVD without sync problems

This tutorial is for a movie of 160mins.

INFORMATION ON FILE DOWNLOADED:

Mostly releasers use XviD codec to compress the DVD-RiPs coz it is just faster than its rival DivX though not by a very large margin!

To compress you need to have the specific codecs installed, separate for audio and video.

Audio is usually compressed in MP3 or else AC-3 ACM format.

Not going into very details, as our main task here is to convert those files!

Softwares required:

1. VirtualDub or VirtualDubMod.

2. Pegasys TMPGEnc Xpress(recommended) or Mainconcept MPEG encoder.

3. XviD or/and DivX codec.

4. MP3/AC3 complete codec(i.e. encoder as well as decoder)

(Cannot provide links...coz FULL version links not allowed)

SYSTEM REUIREMENTS

Minimum:

1.5GHz, 256MB RAM, 5GB free space....

Recommended:

3.0GHz, 512 MB RAM, Lots of free space...

CONVERSION

::If video file is coded in XviD + MP3::

Step 1: Play the video file with your favourite player(Recommended: DivX), and check whether there is no audio-video lags.

Step 2: Open the compressed video file in VirtualDub(VD)...Now at this point, VD may show you an error that, audio lags behind video by 'x'ms..So you are into trouble now, coz if you convert this file directly using your converter then the output will have the 'x'ms of lag.

Step 3: In VD-->

Audio-->Full processing mode
File-->Save .wav (Now it is saving the file in uncompressed format)
(After completing)
Video-->Compression-->DivX codec-->Configure-->Choose Home Theatre profile-->Click on the calulator icon(make sure bitrate based is checked)-->Enter the duration of the file-->Size 1402.88(the bitrate changes)-->Accept-->Ok-->Ok(Now back to VD mainscreen)

Audio-->Wav Audio(select the wav file you saved)

Audio-->Compression(make sure full processing mode is selected)-->MPEG Layer 3-->Choose 128kbps 44100KHz...(coz if we inc./dec. now then file size will change..but we want the new video file to be the same as 1.37GBs..)

File-->Save as Avi-->Choose save location-->(Go take a break)(let it process)

Now your new video file is being created...

New video details:

Video codec: DivX
Audio codec: MP3

Advantage: No lags during conversions!

Step 4: Close VD. Open your converter(Recommended: TMPGEnc)

DivX to VCD/SVCD/DVD

I am giving the steps for TMPGEnc(TG)..but others are also similiar.

TG-->Start new project-->Add File(choose the new 1.37GB Video file we created)

File should be visible in the column there. And a new edit window should open!

Aspect Ratio-->Choose according to your wish...-->Ok

Right click on the clip-->Duplicate Clip-->yes

Select edit on first clip-->position the slider at around half the total duration time(eg: 160mins..then 80mins)-->Set as start frame-->Cut the selected frame range(remember the start frame number)-->Ok (this will produce around 800MB VCD File...10mins=10MBs under above conditions...Disc 1)

Select edit on second clip-->(manually enter the start frame number you noted earlier as end frame number)-->Cut the selcted frame range-->Ok (Another 800MB file...Disc 2)

Set Output(ontop)-->VideoCD Pal(or as you wish..but will instruct for the VCDPAL here..similiar for others)-->Select

Now at the lower right corner you can see the estimated size(1600GBs around) Do not change any settings..or else the file won't be a VCD MPEG I compatible file.

Encode(top)-->(output clips separately)-->Choose location-->Output Preview(Chk if aspect ratio all fine..)-->Start Output-->Yes(Thodi der so jao...This will take time..)

Now use your burning software to burn the VCD file..(No details of that here)

::If video file is coded in XviD + AC-3::

The difference here is that VD cannot transit AC-3 to MP3...

open the video file...Full processing..Save wav..Video compression settings...

Now,

Audio-->No Audio

Start output as avi.

Still our new video is not ready. So this time use TG to add the audio file(.wav)

Add the converted no audio video file in TG.
Just after adding, in the pop-up menu.

(Select Audio Source) Change location to the saved wav file.

Set ouput-->AVI Output-->Ok

Now select the audio and video compressor as in the MP3 coded file section.

Encode-->(see the output all fine..go ahead)-->Start output

During the above production of file..If you try to convert the entire 1.37GB file i.e. without splitting..I have experinced many times that the file output stops at a certain percentage...Still you can give it a try, but if you do not have high-end PC config, then be on the safer side and split to half and then produce one by one!

Now our new DivX coded file is ready for VCD/SVCD/DVD conversion..Use above.

::If video file is coded in DivX + MP3::

GREAT! Continue production of VCD/SVCD/DVD!

::If video file is coded in DivX + AC-3::

Use above instructions to first re-code!

VOILA!!! BINGO! You are done with your productions/conversions!

Note: Direct DivX + AC-3 to VCD/SVCD/DVD is possible if you have the necessary codecs! But what I illustrated is the most common cases!

Get the ACM-3 Decompressor to direclty convert your AC-3 coded files to MP3 using VirtualDub or TMPGEnc: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/...compressor.htm

Hope you enjoyed the tutorial!

Any queries, will try and solve!
